Safe water for ROTOM’s Kahama community
H2O 4 All is a registered Canadian charity working in partnership with ROTOM Uganda to help meet the need for clean water. This November, H2O 4 All will be implementing a new water project in the community in Kahama in Uganda. Kahama village is located in the Kabale district, about 400kms, from the capital Kampala in the south western part of Uganda.
Water in Kahama remains a big challenge in the community. Kahama lies approximately 800 meters above sea level, with the nearest water source at 4-5 kilometers downhill and the terrain is very steep.
The project goal is to rebuild the existing water supply system in order to provide safe and clean water to Kahama community.
When it comes to the granny/senior households whose capacity and energy is frail, they are hit hardest. There are stories of senior citizens who sometimes can take weeks without bathing because of luck of water. As a result there has been, rampant water bone diseases like Diarrhea, typhoid and dysentery which very much negatively impacts the health and subsequently, the lifespan of the people in the community.
The project will benefit over 1500 households living in the area; 248 households are headed by ROTOM supported older persons. The project also benefit the government founded Health Center located in the hills of Kahama. The Health Center One receives close to 600 patients monthly.
