As an 80-year-old, Jjaja Margaret Nafula knows all too well the sting of loss. Having lost her two siblings who were her pillars of support and cherished companions, she was overwhelmed with stress and loneliness and didn't know where to turn. Even her grandchildren, struggling themselves, could only offer limited support.
Then, she heard whispers of hope: ROTOM. These stories, filled with relief and newfound companionship from other seniors, resonated within her and she hoped that one-day God would also smile on her and she would join the program. But a tiny worry lingered – could a Catholic woman like her truly belong?
Two kind ladies from ROTOM, angels in her own words, relieved her of all doubt. Margaret learned about ROTOM’s 20-year commitment to care, regardless of faith. The news that she had been matched with a new friend/sponsor brought her incredible joy. ROTOM wasn't just about easing her burdens, it was also about building a network of support and belonging.
The seniors’ fellowships have been a revelation! Surrounded by newfound friends, Margaret no longer feels isolated. ROTOM's impact has stretched even further. Her burning, swollen feet that had been a constant source of pain have finally received the attention they deserve. With ROTOM's healthcare cover, Margaret hasn’t just been treated, she has also experienced firsthand the respect, kindness, care and peaceful, healing environment that have characterized ROTOM Health Services since its inception. As Margaret herself says, "being in ROTOM feels like home."
"Emirembe," she whispers, “Mpulira Emirembe,” a phrase that translates to "I feel so at peace." Peace is precisely what she has found at ROTOM – peace from worry, peace from loneliness, and a renewed sense of hope for the future. Jjaja Margaret's story is a testament to ROTOM's power to transform lives, offering not just physical support, but also the warmth of a caring community and the peace that comes from knowing you're not alone.
