We had a surprise visitor in June. Edith Kazimba, ROTOM Uganda's programme director, came to the UK to meet up with her husband Henry.
It was her first time to set foot on UK soil so we were pleased to be able to give her a quick taster of England and Wales. The mountains of Wales reminded her of Muhanga in the south west of Uganda, no gorillas though! Paddling in the sea in north Devon was clearly a highlight.
We were able to set up four meetings where she could share her passion for the work of ROTOM. She visited established contacts in Oxford and Croyde and we were delighted to meet with two new church groups in Newbridge and Evesham.
We spent a lovely afternoon with the group at Revive Church, Newbridge, South Wales. Our reception was so warm and empathetic. It would be amazing to build a long term connection with these lovely people and maybe take a group of them out to Uganda to visit the projects in the near future.
Words and pictures can give a flavour of what ROTOM does, but there is nothing quite so powerful as experiencing it first hand for yourself and they love having visitors. Many groups go out for a week or two or longer periods to work alongside the staff and visit the seniors in their own homes. It is life changing for all involved. If anyone thinks they might like to go please get in touch.
Our Evening visit to St Peters Church in Evesham was quite different but equally uplifting. We gave the assembled audience an ultimatum. If they wanted cake and coffee they had to work for it. Edith led them in some Ugandan dancing. We was so impressed that absolutely everyone joined in. Good work Evesham well deserved cake, which was scrumptious by the way!
