One of the staple foods for our seniors is a kind of thin porridge. A thermos flask would enable them to store it safely, keep it hot and carry it with them when they travel.
Each year ROTOM gives all its supported seniors a special Christmas gift. This Christmas, ROTOM would like to gift an essential kitchen item; a Thermos Flask to all its supported seniors. The seniors like to take tea or warm water or porridge at least 3 times a day to keep their bodies warm. In Muhanga, Rukiga district south-western Uganda where almost half of our supported seniors live, it can get really cold. Sometimes temperatures as low as 13 Degrees Celsius (55F), and a warm drink comes in handy. With a thermos flask, seniors can easily keep their tea or porridge hot or warm and take it at any given time within the 24 hours of the day. Moreover, this will save them firewood they would have used to make multiple cups of tea or porridge in the day.
Seniors who are frail find it hard to make a fire to fix a cup of tea every time they need one. With a thermos flask, they or their caregivers can easily prepare tea or porridge once a day and keep it in the flask for whenever they need it.
For seniors who have school-going grandchildren, they find it so hard to ensure that their grandchildren have tea before they go to school. Many of them say that they find it so difficult to wake up in the wee hours of the morning to make a fire and fix this early morning tea for the children before they go to school. This has caused many grandchildren to eat cold left-over food from the nights’ dinner for breakfast, or have nothing at all, which affects their health and schooling. Therefore, a gift of a thermos flask will be very helpful in improving the day to today living of seniors and their households.
