Recognizing Grandparents ‘Around the Globe’ on Oct. 1st

ROTOM, in partnership with other organizations that work with older persons in Uganda, will be commemorating the International Day of Older Persons on October 1st under the umbrella of the Ministry of Gender, Labor and Social Development.

Globally, the United Nations’ sets this day aside as a special day to celebrate elders, in part mostly because of the negative stereotypes and misconceptions about older persons and aging; as well as to enable them to realize their future potential in many areas within their lives. ROTOM believes in this potential and we’re taking part. Equally important, ROTOM Uganda will be sending a few of our seniors to represent us at the national celebration happening in one district in Northern Uganda.

The focus area for this year’s celebration is adapted from the global theme of “The Resilience and Contributions of Older Women.” And, we as an organization stand beside them, recognizing this special day on behalf of all our Grannies and Grandpas in Uganda, Canada, the U.S., and no matter where else they live. ROTOM loves and supports the elderly, every day and those grandparents, both here and around the world! We celebrate with you!
