ROTOM’s Annual Summer of Giving campaign is underway! Each year we raise funds help purchase a Christmas Gift for each senior friend. Our team wants to make sure that every senior, including those waiting for a friend, receives a gift this Christmas season. Each year our Summer of Giving campaign is a reminder to our senior friends that they are remembered, valued and loved in a Christ-like way. The reason God sent Jesus to earth so that we would know His love for all of humanity.
Our gift last year of a unique Solar Lantern to seniors in Uganda was used for safe-lighting to illuminate their homes. We received testimonies that most of our seniors resorted to sitting in the dark every night, and now thanks to our dear donor family, they now have light in their homes and along the way to the latrine.
This year, we want to provide the Gift of Warmth – a comforting, warm Blanket. (And to those in Ethiopia, a nice pair of shoes/sandals). Many of our seniors cannot sleep well due to illnesses, the cold and sleep without bedding materials. Did you know 87.9% of ROTOM supported seniors have old blankets (according to a ROTOM Performance Evaluation Report) and most of them assure that their grandchildren have a blanket before themselves. Merabu N. is raising 8 little grandchildren, and between the 9 of them, 3 thin blankets help keep them warm at night. She shares her bed with a granddaughter because it’s the only way to ward off the cold night! In fact it is very hard to keep warm when it’s cold outside and there are no warm covers.
Most of the time, it’s just not realistic to provide additional comfort materials like pillows, sheets and bedding to each senior in Uganda and a pair of shoes to seniors in Ethiopia. We hope that this simple gift affords our senior friends and their dependents a small luxury, one that so many of us take for granted.
